Before the viral moments and record-breaking sales, Stormi Steele was building Canvas Beauty with precision and intention.

Her approach has positioned the brand at the center of a major shift in beauty retail. Steele generated more than $1 million in a single TikTok Shop live session, marking one of the earliest moments a beauty founder reached that level of real-time revenue through live commerce.

Social commerce continues to accelerate, with industry projections estimating the U.S. market will surpass $100 billion in the coming years. Beauty remains one of its fastest-growing categories, driven by creator-led discovery and real-time purchasing behavior.

Live selling has existed for years, but her execution elevated it into something more intentional—rooted in trust, consistency, and direct connection.

A clear distinction exists between selling products and building a brand people believe in. Steele recognized that early.

“I saw people responding in real time—not just buying, but engaging, asking questions, sharing their own stories,” she explains. “It became something deeper than a transaction.”

That connection became the foundation of Canvas Beauty’s growth. Every product, every live session, and every conversation reinforced a relationship with her audience.

“Shortcuts don’t sustain,” Steele says. “Skipping steps means missing lessons, and those lessons are what protect your brand long-term.”

Discipline shaped the business. Growth followed.

Live commerce continues to reshape how consumers discover beauty, with platforms prioritizing creator-led and community-driven purchasing behavior. Data from NielsenIQ shows consumers are increasingly relying on social platforms and trusted voices to guide purchasing decisions, particularly in beauty where demonstration and transparency drive conversion.

Steele’s approach aligns directly with that shift. Her live sessions combine education, storytelling, and product demonstration in a way that feels immediate and transparent.

“People think you just go live and sell,” she says. “It takes strategy, stamina, and storytelling.”

Consistency drives results. Her audience doesn’t passively watch—they participate.

“My community shows up because they trust me,” Steele explains. “They’ve seen the journey. They know I stand behind what I’m offering.”

Trust has become a competitive advantage.

Black consumers continue to play a defining role in beauty’s growth, spending billions annually on beauty and personal care while consistently driving cultural trends across the industry. Access to capital and distribution has historically remained uneven for Black founders, despite that level of influence.

Steele’s success reflects both the opportunity and the shift, demonstrating what happens when community, visibility, and commerce align.

As Canvas Beauty continues to scale, selectivity has become essential. Visibility alone isn’t enough.

“I look for alignment and readiness,” she says. “A product can be great, but the foundation has to be strong. Exposure brings opportunity, but it also brings pressure.”

Her collaboration with La La Anthony reflects that approach. The partnership extended beyond name recognition, rooted instead in shared vision and intention.

“Working with someone who understands brand, audience, and intention changes everything,” she says. “You can feel that in what you create together.”

Scaling a brand while maintaining control requires clarity. Steele speaks openly about the challenges that came before the momentum.

“Access was one of the biggest hurdles—capital, resources, and the right rooms,” she shares. “The results people see now came from a lot of risk and figuring things out without a blueprint.”

Growth introduces visibility. Visibility introduces scrutiny.

“Leading with integrity matters,” she says. “Staying grounded in what I built matters.”

Balance remains fluid.

“When I’m working, I’m fully working. When I’m with my family, I’m present. Boundaries are necessary.”

Her journey reflects a broader shift in beauty—one where connection carries as much weight as product.

“Focus on your foundation,” she advises. “Learn your business. Know your numbers. Understand your audience.”

Preparation determines sustainability.

“Everything moves fast once the spotlight hits,” she says. “Being ready makes the difference.”

Consistency continues to define her path forward.

“Building something that lasts takes intention every step of the way.”
